Globalisation

Whether we like the past or not we still need to live in the present and make the best of it. But what's in store for the future? The media influences the citizens with the concept of having a one currency, one government to rule over everyone.

Is this for the better of the citizen or is it a mastermind of minds that the only interest they have is their own fancy ambitions? Just have a look at this video and think for yourself.

Here in Malta we have just entered the European Union. Many are all for it, while others think otherwise. Perhaps after this video you can come to a conclusion regarding the implications.

Balluta Bay, St Julians, Malta

Old postcards are all fascinating to come across. The older they are the more you can appreciate the changes (good or bad) that have taken place during the years. I love to compare today's sights with those of yesteryear - not to necessarily judge on which one is best, but mainly for the purpose of sharing with others the awareness of the changes that took place in the fast changing world we are living in.

A recent find is a postcard of St Julians of around the 50s. It featured Balluta Bay. This week, I took a shot of the same area in the evening glitter as it stands today. Surprisingly most of the architechture - including the Carmelite Church - is still preserved and the corner building on the left is today used as a restaurant. We seem to have the best of both worlds in this instant as we are enjoying the old vernacular with an enhanced romantic feeling which modern day lighting manages to achieve.

The Present

It is fine to be nostalgic sometimes and recall how things were. Very often things in the past were in a worse state than now, yet they still have an attraction of sorts. This could be due to the fact that they were the first experiences in our lives and we get to know things as we had encountered them first, flaws and all...

However, we should not live only in the past and it is important to appreciate also what the present has to offer.

Here is a night shot of Marsascala which has become quite a big village and increasingly popular as a summer residence and for evening strolls in both summer and winter.
