Paul Potts

Paul Potts won the latest British Talent Show. He lacked confidence in himself and yet he never gave up on what he loved. And he won. I dedicate this great video to all those who either lack self confidence or tend to give up easily.

Many do find themselves disheartened easily especially when finding themselves without a job late in life and lack the confidence to try something new. It is never too late to discover inner strengths that we sometimes are not even aware of. This video of Paul is a good example to keep believing in ourselves and potential.

Gemma Portelli is no more

Gemma Portelli died today at the age of 75. She was a key figure in Malta with her participation in the local drama and comedy presentations. All baby boomers have been weaned on her ongoing performances which had started on the Redifusion back in the 50s and was very popular with the Radju Muskettieri trio. This video is homage to her contribution in making the Maltese smile, laugh or cry at some point in their lives.

Wedding Flowers History

Love is in the air and soon Valentine's day will be a great commercial booster that captures many an imagination.

And thinking of love ..... the next thought could be marraige. But did you know the original significance of the flowers that a bride holds in her hands? Nor did I until I learnt the interesting history these flowers had back in the 1500s. Of course, we do not remember this fact but is still fascinating to delve in past lifestyles and learn how by time the original meaning of a modern trend had much more important use when introduced.

Back in those early days when people were very poor a bath was taken only once a year around May. Usually the brides got married during June when they were more or less still fresh. So to smell even fresher the brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide any possible body odour. Hence, the custom today of carrying a bouquet when getting married.

Today's vanities were yesterday's needs.
