Wedding Flowers History

Love is in the air and soon Valentine's day will be a great commercial booster that captures many an imagination.

And thinking of love ..... the next thought could be marraige. But did you know the original significance of the flowers that a bride holds in her hands? Nor did I until I learnt the interesting history these flowers had back in the 1500s. Of course, we do not remember this fact but is still fascinating to delve in past lifestyles and learn how by time the original meaning of a modern trend had much more important use when introduced.

Back in those early days when people were very poor a bath was taken only once a year around May. Usually the brides got married during June when they were more or less still fresh. So to smell even fresher the brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide any possible body odour. Hence, the custom today of carrying a bouquet when getting married.

Today's vanities were yesterday's needs.
